What is a qualified electronic signature (QES)?

Swisscom Sign is more than a digital signature. The qualified electronic signature (QES) is equivalent to a handwritten signature under Swiss law and is valid within the entire jurisdiction of Switzerland. With a QES, you can sign documents electronically, with legal effect, which would previously have been signed by hand (simple written form).

If you need to sign a document that falls under European jurisdiction, please choose our eIDAS-compliant QES.

What are the requirements for using Swisscom Sign?

To be able to sign your documents electronically with Swisscom Sign, you need:

How does co-signing work?

You can invite someone to co-sign a document. It’s simple:

  1. Position the signature field for the person to sign the document.
  2. Pay for the additional signature in the case of commercial use.
  3. The invited person will receive an e-mail with the link to our website. They then scan the QR code with their smartphone and access the document.
  4. If the invited person is not yet registered, they will first need to verify their identity using their valid identification document.
  5. The invitee signs the document.
  6. You will receive a confirmation e-mail that the signing process has been completed and that the document is ready for download.

Where can I subsequently view the signed document?

After each completed signature process, you receive an e-mail with a link to the signed document - regardless of whether one or more people have signed it.

You can download the document via this link within 30 days. Please download it in good time and save it on your device or in a cloud, as it will then be deleted automatically.

How can I verify the authenticity of an electronic signature?

On this Swiss Confederation web page, you can upload a document and check for free whether the qualified electronic signature is valid.

Can I use Swisscom Sign directly in Microsoft Office and Google Docs?

Swisscom Sign cannot yet be used in Microsoft Office or Google Docs. Such an offer is currently being developed.

Is my scanned handwritten signature legally valid?

A scanned signature does not meet the requirements for a qualified electronic signature. So if you sign on a piece of paper, scan it and use it digitally, it is not legally equivalent to your handwritten signature, because it is easy to fake or reproduce.
