“We are delighted about the exceptional results achieved by Swisscom once more in the Connect network test”, said Heinz Herren, CTO & CIO of Swisscom. “In order to provide our customers with the best network in Switzerland, we are investing an enormous amount in our network expansion”.
Connect not only confirms Swisscom's position as the best mobile network in Switzerland and its leading position when compared with the networks in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but also its status as the best network for mobile data communication. The data volume used by the 6.6 million Swisscom customers via its mobile network is doubling each year. Every week, 2,025,500 GB of data is transmitted via the Swisscom mobile network. Swisscom is expanding its network on an ongoing basis in order to cater to the growing demand. In summer 2015, Swisscom became the first – and to date remains the only – provider in Switzerland to introduce calls via the 4G/LTE network (VoLTE). More than half a million Swisscom customers already use VoLTE, with around two million VoLTE calls being made every day.
“Seven wins in a row speaks for itself: Although its two competitors really stepped up the pace with their respective network expansions and offers, the Swiss market leader was again able to maintain its top position in 2015. This is anything but a simple task and would hardly have been possible without Swisscom's major investments and high level of commitment”, stated Connect in summing up the result in its test report.
Some 98% of the Swiss population can already use 4G/LTE at a speed of up to 150 Mbps. Swisscom is also further developing LTE-Advanced in order to enable it to provide greater capacity and higher speeds. Customers in 28 cities are already able to transfer mobile data at speeds of up to 300 Mbps, and speeds of 450 Mbps will be available in initial locations from 2016 onwards. These are maximum values under optimum conditions; actual speed depends on the location, number of users in the mobile radio cell and the mobile device.
