In the interview, Alessandro, DevOps Engineer at Swisscom, describes how he came to the company, what his experience with Swisscom has been like so far and what he particularly likes about his work.
Alessandro: Sure! I have a background in software development and have always been interested in working in the tech industry. I have a Ph.D in physics which I obtained in Glasgow, and one of the steps in my career was being an Engineer at CERN in Geneva, where I got to work on some really exciting projects. When I saw an opportunity to join Swisscom, I jumped at the chance. I was really impressed by the company's reputation and the innovative projects we were working on.
Alessandro: It's been great! The thing I like most about working at Swisscom is the level of trust and autonomy we have as teams. We're encouraged to take ownership of our projects and think outside the box, which has been really motivating for me. We operate in an agile environment with distributed development teams, so we're able to collaborate effectively and deliver high-quality work.
Alessandro: Absolutely. Swisscom has a really positive culture. We invest a lot in the growth and training of our employees, which is something I value a lot. I feel like I'm constantly learning and improving my skills here. Additionally, we have regular team-building activities and opportunities to bond with colleagues. I've made some great connections and friends here, which has made my transition to the company much easier.
Alessandro: The most exciting aspect for me is the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects and technologies. Swisscom is always pushing the boundaries and coming up with new and innovative solutions, which is really inspiring. It's a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and I love being a part of it. Additionally, I appreciate working in multi-cultural teams with people from different backgrounds and identities. It brings diverse perspectives and ideas to the table and makes the work environment more enriching. Also, I appreciate the fact that our team is distributed and extended to the DevOps center we have in Riga (Latvia) which allows us to have a broader view and different approach in our projects.
