Advertising calls are still prolific but Swisscom’s Callfilter provides effective protection against them. In February alone, this blocked around four million unwanted spam calls. When first launched, the Callfilter was an ‘opt-in option’ for legal reasons. In other words, it was set to ‘disabled’ by default and had to be activated by the customer. Legal and technical framework conditions have since changed, enabling us to modify the Callfilter settings. Swisscom has already been automatically activating the Callfilter for all new residential customers (fixed & mobile network) since September 2024 and will now do so for existing customers as well. “As we have recently seen a further sharp increase in the number of unwanted advertising calls and feedback has made us aware that many customers assume that the Callfilter is ‘automatically’ activated, we have decided to adapt our previous approach as of the end of March. We are now activating the Callfilter for existing fixed-network residential customers who have not yet activated it”, states Dirk Wierzbitzki, Head of Residential Customers at Swisscom. The Callfilter can obviously be disabled in My Swisscom at any time on request. All affected fixed-network residential customers will be informed about the change on their March bill (received at the start of April). The change of approach for mobile residential customers will take place later this year.
