Swiss AI Platform: AI Made in Switzerland

With the Swiss AI Platform, Swisscom is creating a powerful infrastructure for developing trustworthy AI applications. The platform, which is modular in design, offers guaranteed data storage in Switzerland. From autumn 2024, it will give customers flexible access to NVIDIA supercomputers, generative AI services, an AI Work Hub for developing AI solutions and a library of models. It is intended to be a one-stop shop for AI solutions, providing everything from advice to operation.

At the start of the year, Swisscom announced that it was working with NVIDIA to develop its very own AI supercomputers in Switzerland. Through its partnership with NVIDIA, Swisscom wants to provide standardised self-service AI applications and work with customers to develop customised AI applications. Swisscom’s new Swiss AI Platform represents the next step in this process: a secure solution that is operated in Switzerland and built on state-of-the-art infrastructure.

Modular Swiss AI Platform for flexible access to AI infrastructure and services

The Swiss AI Platform offers AI infrastructure, platform and application services. The modular design gives customers the flexibility to select and combine components according to their requirements. GPU Rental provides access to Switzerland’s first NVIDIA SuperPOD system, which enables the processing of large volumes of data; for instance, for the training, finetuning and operation of models. The GenAI Studio gives customers easy access to generative AI services via API interfaces, with which they can create their own AI solutions with the content they require in line with company-specific requirements. The AI Work Hub is designed for data scientists who analyse and process large data volumes and develop and train models. It supports the collaborative development of customer-specific AI applications. Swisscom’s model catalogue provides customers with a curated library of open-source models. Models to be licensed or those developed by Swisscom in collaboration with third parties will also be made available at a later stage.

One-stop shop – made in Switzerland

In the future, customers will be able to source all of their AI services from Swisscom, from advice to the development of AI applications, implementation and secure operation, while enjoying maximum flexibility in all components. They can choose between the Swiss AI Platform, infrastructure operated by global public cloud providers and integrated AI solutions in standard software applications.

The NVIDIA infrastructure therefore enhances Swisscom’s existing products with infrastructure and applications that offer maximum Swissness. It is particularly suitable for use cases involving sensitive data that must be stored and processed in Switzerland.

Unique Swiss centre of excellence for AI

By working with NVIDIA, Swisscom has leading global industry experts on board with experience in implementing artificial intelligence in diverse industries, sectors and specific application scenarios and who are abreast of the rapid developments in AI. The close collaboration with NVIDIA enhances Swisscom’s strong partnerships with global public cloud providers, independent software companies and universities. Together with Swisscom’s 400 AI and data specialists and their many years of extensive experience, they constitute a unique Swiss Center of Excellence. This ensures that Swisscom is fully equipped to provide customers with comprehensive, tailored, technology-neutral solutions as a trustworthy partner.

Urs Lehner: “Understanding our customers’ needs is our top priority. We can then support them in setting up their AI projects and customising them accordingly. Sensitive data is in good hands thanks to our powerful, trustworthy Swiss infrastructure. It is a Swiss solution for the Swiss economy.”
