“With the ninth win in the connect network test, Swisscom continues to demonstrate that it offers its customer the best mobile network in Switzerland,” says Urs Schaeppi, CEO Swisscom. “I am delighted by the result as other mobile phone tests have also rated our network as the best. It confirms that we are on the right track with our network expansion strategy.”
Despite the increased demands made by the test every year, Swisscom again took the top spot in Switzerland this year with 973 out of a total 1,000 points. Alongside its position as overall winner, Swisscom also won the two main categories of mobile data communication and crowdsourcing, the latter test having been incorporated in the overall ranking for the first time this year. From September to November 2018, around 153 million metrics were evaluated for 54,000 mobile phone users in Switzerland. These included the existence of a network connection, which network technologies were available, and the rate of data downloads.
Swisscom has also taken first place in other mobile phone network tests such as the recent Speed Test carried out by Ookla. In addition, a number of mobile communications providers also rely on the Swisscom network, and thus the best network in Switzerland.
Excellent results across all Swiss networks in the test demonstrate the high level of quality in Switzerland. The competition in Switzerland works to the benefit of customers.
Swisscom is investing heavily in the LTE Advanced expansion to meet the growing demand for even more capacity and speed in the network. Swisscom already covers 95 percent of the population with up to 300 Mbit/s, 72 percent with up to 500 Mbit/s and 27 percent with up to 700 Mbit/s. At the same time, Swisscom is working intensively on introducing the latest 5G generation of mobile communications. As the technology and innovation leader in Switzerland and to support business in Switzerland, Swisscom wants to roll out 5G to its customers and the country as a whole as quickly as possible. At the end of 2018, 5G test networks were already operating in Burgdorf, Lausanne, Geneva, Zurich, Bern, Davos and Lucerne, making Swisscom one of the world's first providers of fully standardised 5G networks. There are plans to expand around 60 towns and municipalities throughout Switzerland with 5G by the end of 2019.
