Interns & Trainees
Learning 3.0 - About stable odour and strategy: My first months as a Swisscom trainee
I was sipping my coffee with relish when I received the confirmation from Swisscom:
Interns & Trainees
I was sipping my coffee with relish when I received the confirmation from Swisscom:
The best thing was that the two colleagues who took part in the assessment with me had also made it! The sun wasn't just shining from the sky.
After a summer of love, I was really looking forward to starting at Swisscom. Too much sand between your toes and salt in your hair only makes you beautiful, relaxed and happy in the long run 😉
In the meantime, we received a list of trainee projects. Around 40 exciting tenders. The choice wasn't easy: do I want to immerse myself in virtual reality for four months, negotiate international roaming contracts, promote innovation or (co-)develop a new product? I decided in favour of product development: exciting core business, lots of touchpoints and a digital pedigree.
On 1 October, the time had finally come: the first day!
I finally got to know my Trainee colleagues know. Good faces, exciting stories and a common denominator:
Trainee 16/17 - what more could you want?

After a two-day introduction, we got started.
My first "real" working day: I made my way to Liebefeld with great expectations. Centrally located, the building is very pretty, the infrastructure modern, the walls colourful and the people relaxed.
My team was already waiting for me in a very friendly manner and with a great "induction pack": a list of exciting colleagues in my area and the four work packages for my time on the project. I was already fully integrated into the team on my first day and was able to take on responsibility: Calls with European telcos alternated with helping to organise a workshop, customer tests and the development of a web-based demo tool.
In the first week, like all new Swisscom employees, we were invited to the Welcome Day in Genfergasse in Bern. The day provided a good opportunity to familiarise ourselves with the various areas of Swisscom and make a few new acquaintances. A member of the Group Executive Board gave a motivating speech, preparing us for the challenges ahead and our responsibilities as Swisscom employees.
Four months have already passed and I have experienced a lot: organising and conducting a UX workshop with a supplier from the USA, telephone conferences and contacts with providers and service providers from around the world, a great team and a super trainee group with whom you can do more than just drink beer. Drinking Rötali, for example. And drinking Freschöné. And Skiing. Or dance 😉
The second project is already on the agenda. Where are we going?
The title says it all:
In my first project, I was able to experience the world of core product development. For the second project, I have decided to join the Corporate Strategy department and am swapping hammer for pen. Reporting directly to the Group Executive Board, we will be working on the Swisscom strategy of tomorrow.
I'm looking forward to the new perspective and exciting experiences in project no. 2 - the outlook is good, the traffic light is green:
Kind regards
Jeremias
