Swisscom is collaborating with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to launch an ambitious transformation program where we follow a "Cloud Native & Cloud First" approach. It is our intention to bring all our workloads to the cloud – IT & networks – and to have all our workloads refactored into a modern cloud-native architecture. A cloud-native architecture accelerates the pace of innovation by rapidly improving existing digital services, and by supporting development of new ones, providing a superior Customer Experience.
This is an ambitious goal which requires a highly skilled and capable team. While we already have experts with extensive knowledge in this area, cloud skills are so important to Swisscom that we want this knowledge and expertise to be widespread throughout the entire company and enable everybody on the benefits of cloud.
That’s exactly why we have established the Cloud Mastery program with AWS: It is our community space in which we can learn through formal classroom training or digital content, and practice a learner’s newly acquired skills in a safe environment through informal learning events. This could be via hackathons, game days, deep racers, or lunch and learn sessions. This is also the space to learn from colleagues and to share your experience and knowledge with them. We are building a team of Cloud Advocates that help organize informal learning sessions and that will be vocal about learning, new trends and how we can apply these in the Swisscom context.
To be successful in VUCA times (VUCA stands for volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous), we need to be flexible and see change as the new normal. How are we achieving this? By creating a learning culture that fosters trust and ownership across the organization. We can increase our adaptability to change through constant learning on the job and putting the learned new skills into practice and an environment that fosters a learning and experimentation mindset. Through Cloud Mastery we are supporting our employees to obtain and train exactly these highly valuable skills, increasing the existing knowledge and experience gained to the next level.
It is very important to mention is that we want our employees to take the necessary time needed to study and develop these skills. To become cloud fluent, Swisscom is committed to allowing time to learn and to experiment. We want to empower our employees with Cloud Mastery. Why? Because our employees are the driving force behind our success and the key ingredient for us all to be successful.
We are all very excited to work with new technologies and to be an integral part of bringing our strategy to life and make Swisscom an even more exciting place to work!
