SCALE - How Swisscom retains its talent - getIT

As number 1, we are shaping the future - that is our vision. In a world that is becoming ever faster and more complex, we count on employees who can adapt quickly to new situations and deal with complex information. We also need employees who are prepared to lead the way and get things done. Only with the best can we master the challenges ahead: Providing the best customer experience, taking on new business activities, optimising the cost base and enabling growth.

Finding, developing and retaining talent is therefore essential for us. That is why we do everything we can to identify talent, both externally through our Talent Acquisition Managers and internally through our Talent Management team. With targeted talent development and succession planning, we fill the pipeline with high potentials and thus ensure our business continuity. Would you like to know how we do this at Swisscom? We explain it to you here.

The "Swisscom Advanced Learning Experience", or "SCALE" for short

Who are we on the lookout for? There is no such thing as "standard talent" at our company. We look for ambitious and motivated high potentials who want to make things happen and have the right skills and attitude. These top performers go through an extensive application process based on clearly defined criteria. The evaluation is carried out by HR assessors and representatives from the organisational units. If the applicants are convincing, their one-year SCALE journey begins.

This allows us to address a broad target group consisting of employees from different organisational units and job levels. SCALE is therefore not a rigid programme, but a flexible range of modules and tools that can be put together individually by the talents. Everyone has a different starting point. Talents can therefore put together their own development journey - as pilots in their own paraglider, they set the focus of their journey themselves. If they need support, they are accompanied and coached by us, the Talent Relationship Managers.

In addition, we offer an (online) platform to promote the personal and professional development of talents in dialogue with talent alumni, coaches, mentors, decision-makers and managers. They receive additional visibility by being able to introduce themselves to committees and make themselves known. They are also focussed on internal vacancies and are recommended for these by HR Business Partners or our Talent Management team, for example.

Once a talent, always a talent

SCALE has no expiry date - talents become alumni. We attach great importance to talent retention management: the community remains and the development opportunities do not end after the official SCALE year. Alumni can continue to develop, either because they are in the succession planning phase, for example, or because they are still in focus thanks to their proactivity, network and visibility.
