Lars started his training as a retail specialist in summer 2020 and experienced a huge surprise during his first few hours in the Swisscom shop: his idol trainer Marcel welcomed him personally and took the time to have a coffee with the young apprentice. Of course, we captured this surprise visit on camera so that you can watch it here on YouTube(opens in new tab).

"On my first day at work, the impossible became possible."

But that's not all - Lars is really making the most of Swisscom's flexible training system. After six months in the shop, he decided to spend a semester in the Junior Centre, where all applications for our apprenticeships are processed.

Lars explains: "At Swisscom, we apprentices have individualised training. This means that we can change the so-called "project" after six months at the latest. We apply internally for other positions that are advertised by Swisscom employees. This does not necessarily have to be in sales, but can also be in accounting, mediamatics, IT or at one of our subsidiaries such as Cablex in the field service. As you have already read above, I started my apprenticeship in the shop. I'm currently working on a commercial project. So anything is possible here at Swisscom and all doors are open to us apprentices. You just have to want to.". That's how he sums it up. You can find more information about our apprenticeship model in this video(opens in new tab).

Lars decided to become a retail specialist because of his interest in technology and his helpful nature. During the traditional Sunday visit to his grandmother, he regularly helped her with a mobile phone issue. The recurring research into her questions also increased his interest in the technology behind it and so his hobby suddenly turned into his dream job: consulting specialising in technology.

"I helped her as much as I could. If I didn't know something, I researched it on the internet."

Are you also enthusiastic about technology or do you like helping your friends and relatives when they need support with mobile phone issues? Then an apprenticeship in retail is just right for you.
