Ypsomed is the world's leading developer and manufacturer of injection and infusion systems for self-medication. With a global network of production sites, subsidiaries and sales partners and around 1600 employees worldwide, it is a challenge for corporate communications to provide the relevant stakeholders with the right messages via the appropriate communication channels. To manage and distribute its video content, the company has been successfully using Swisscom Broadcast's secure Enterprise Video Platform for some time.

Video on the rise

Video is currently one of the trends in corporate communication. No wonder, because as a medium that brings information and emotionality into harmony, the moving image is excellently suited for use in internal as well as external communication and also ensures increased efficiency throughout the company with a variety of use cases - from product videos to internal training videos to investor relations live streams.

An alternative to YouTube

At Ypsomed, too, the volume of videos has steadily increased in recent years. Initially, the company relied on YouTube to manage their videos, "with all the known disadvantages," as Massimo Mercuriali, Manager Marketing Communications at Ypsomed, explains:

"You are on the second largest search engine in the world with your content, but in exchange you lose complete control over your own content, you cannot replace existing videos with new versions without changing the URL, you have to live with co-branding in the YouTube environment, you cannot seamlessly integrate videos into the layout of your own website, and and and..." In short: an alternative solution for video hosting was needed. An online search and asking around among professional colleagues finally drew Mercuriali's attention to the secure Enterprise Video Platform (sEVP) from Swissom and movingimage.

«The potential of the platform is far from exhausted.»

Already over 300 videos on the platform

"We now use the platform for all corporate use cases: explanatory videos, product presentations, corporate films, HR, CEO statements and internal communication," says the communications professional. Especially in handling videos for MedTech products, the secure EVP with its comprehensive functionalities outperforms the competition. In addition, Ypsomed's image film, for example, can be seamlessly integrated into the company's website thanks to a configurable player that matches the corporate design.

More order, control and security

The videos are managed by the online team, which consists of four people. "We still use YouTube, but only for promotional purposes," Mercuriali explains. Asked for a conclusion, he mentions above all the order, control and security that have improved significantly with the introduction of the Enterprise Video Platform. "The platform runs extremely reliably and offers much more functionality than we currently use. Until now, however, we simply didn't have the time."

When asked about optimisation possibilities, Mercuriali mentions, for example, embedding videos directly via the movingimage API instead of using the standard embedding solution. In addition to better performance, this would also have the advantage that metadata for the videos can be entered directly in the user backend of the platform and these are also played out on the website. But e-learning, live presentations or on-demand webinar recordings are also a topic for the future: "The potential of the platform is far from exhausted.
