Population scenarios
The total population will continue to increase in the years to come. Although overall the Swiss Federal Statistical Office forecasts a slowing-up of the recent development, even the best scenario envisages an increase equivalent to a megapolis like Zurich.

The number of persons with permanent residency in Switzerland totalled 8.3 million in 2015. In Scenario A this figure increases to 9.5 million by 2030 and 10.2 million in 2045.In Scenario B it increases to 11.0 and in Scenario C to 9.4 million.
