Before coronavirus, physical investor relations events were the norm. But then analyst meetings, general meetings and investor meetings suddenly had to be held virtually instead of physically. Today, purely physical events are the exception and digital or hybrid events are the rule. This trend, which began before coronavirus, has intensified and accelerated significantly with the pandemic. A study of 130 listed companies in the DACH region confirms this: three quarters of IR managers believe that their shareholders and investors are open to virtual formats. In Switzerland, purely digital general meetings have been permitted since the beginning of 2023, provided the articles of association provide for this.

The contemporary alternative to the conference call

The two most obvious advantages of digital general meetings are the cost and time savings for companies, but also for analysts and shareholders. As a side effect, virtual events massively reduce CO2 emissions and thus the environmental impact, increase reach and boost interaction and thus the engagement of shareholders and analysts. Although the platforms and the technology behind them are highly developed, secure access is simple for all participants: a computer, smartphone or tablet with internet access and a password is all that is needed.

Whitepaper: Virtual IR events

Would you like to find out more about virtual investor relations events as an alternative to traditional conference calls? In our free white paper, you can find out what the new revision of company law means for the organisation of virtual IR events and how to organise a virtual Annual General Meeting in seven steps.

The right platform and the right partner

But not only is access effortless, participating in a virtual investor relations event is also very easy. Anyone who regularly attends Google Meetings or Microsoft Teams Calls - which applies to a large proportion of the working population today - will find their way around immediately. Modern virtual event platforms are very user-friendly despite their many functions such as live chats, Q&A sessions or 1:1 meetings. With an experienced partner at their side, IR organisers also need to worry even less about technology or security. They can concentrate on the programme, the content and supporting the participants and ensure satisfied investors and analysts.
